Denver Named Among 2010 Best Winter Locations
Denver Named Among 2010 Best Winter Locations
Move over, California! The Weather Channel has named Denver, Colorado among its, “2010 Best Winter Locations” list. Yes, we’ve bragged about Denver’s mild winter weather to non-residents for years, but they never seem to believe us!
Well, the Weather Channel has finally validated these claims by ranking Denver as the 7th “Best Winter Location” with the reasoning, “When you analyze Denver’s 2009-2010 winter, it’s nearly non-descript. When a winter season is non-descript that usually is a good thing. Denver’s winter lacked any significant winter storms with an active storm track that generally stayed to Colorado’s south. Yes, temperatures did remain at or below average for the majority of the season but a winter season without any crippling snowstorms in the city is a win in our book.” Other cities named included Los Angeles (#9 – yes, it was ranked lower than Denver after its heavy rain this winter), Honolulu (#4), Portland, Oregon (#3), Taos, New Mexico (#2), and Seattle (#1).
These rankings may be up for debate – let’s see Los Angeles or Denver in January? Maybe the judges forgot or totally overlooked our massive Halloween snowstorm? We’ll take it, though! We’ll see if our good fortune holds since March is usually one of Denver’s snowiest months. And, what is wrong with a little snow in Colorado?
If the Weather Channel’s judges think Colorado’s winters are good, they should come and visit during Denver’s beautiful, mild summer months. Denver’s low humidity, mild temperatures, and cool nights, arguably makes it once of the best cities for summer weather.

U. S. News & World Report Names Aurora, Colorado as One of America’s Most Affordable Places to Retire
There are certainly some nice things being said about Aurora, Colorado. Earlier this year, The Rocky Mountain News singled out Aurora (population: 310,000) as having the best tasting tap water in the Rocky Mountains.

Denver Tourism Faring Well in Economic Downturn
It’s summer in Colorful Colorado, which means it’s prime tourism season. According to Visit Denver, Denver tourism bucked a national decline tourism spending last year – Denver visitors spent a record $3.1 billion, which is a 9 percent increase from 2007.
While the number of overnight visitors was virtually unchanged from 2007 to 2008, the travelers spent more money. Where are these visitors coming from? California, Texas, and Florida residents make up the most Colorado tourists, so please, be nice to the Texans.
This trend isn’t surprising since Denver has so much to offer its visitors – the Cherry Creek mall, LoDo, the 16th Street Mall, are just a few of our city’s most-popular tourism spots.

Denver Named Most Photo-Friendly City in the United States
Get your cameras out! Popular Photography magazine recently named Denver as the “Most Photo-Friendly City in America, ” out of the most 30 populous cities in the United States. According to the magazine’s press release, Denver was singled out “for the fantastic backdrops in its historic LoDo —Lower Downtown—section, as well as for weather that often serves up sparkling mornings and dramatic bulbous thunderheads above the Front Range peaks on the western edge of the city. Capricious weather can give you 70-degree temperatures and quaking aspen trees one day, blizzards the next. Plus, the rugged Rockies are just a short ride away.”
Denver ranked above San Francisco (2) and Austin (3), both beautiful cities. This is another sign of Denver’s growing reputation as a prime destination for travel and leisure. Thank you, Popular Photography magazine for recognizing our city’s unique charm and beauty. We are truly lucky to live here.
Denver Tops List of “Best Places to Live”
The secret is out! Washington-based Pew Research Center has picked the Mile High City as the “number one big city to call home” in the country. Our great city, which was chosen from the 30 largest metropolitan areas in the United States, is in good company with San Diego and Seattle also ranking in the top three.
What makes Denver great place to live? Size. It is not too big, and not too small, so you never feel overwhelmed here. Denver truly has it all – a sophisticated night life, fine dining, a wonderful arts district, premier museums, shopping, and much more. For some stress relief, City Park, Washington Park, Sloan’s Lake, and the Botanic Gardens are only a few minutes from Downtown Denver. Our state-the art light rail system, which already provides transportation to most parts of the city, is on track for future expansion. Denver’s sports teams are an important part of life in Denver. We love our sports, especially the Denver Broncos (with a new coach!), the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Nuggets, and the Colorado Avalanche.
If you need a getaway from hectic city life, the Rocky Mountain’s foothills are within a 30-minute drive from Denver. How about a little fly fishing in gorgeous Clear Creek Canyon, which is only 30 minutes away? Colorado’s world-class ski resorts are less than two hours away from Denver.
The median age of a Denver resident is 34, which makes it a young, family-oriented city. Young families present a need for top-notch schools, so the Denver metro area boasts some of the finest school systems in the country, which offer advanced programs for gifted children, along with premier programs for children with developmental challenges.
Denver is truly a wonderful city, and we are proud to call it home. If you have questions about living in Denver, or regarding the Denver real estate market, please contact TeamCox Realtors at 303-400-6060. We’ll do our best to not over-sell it!
